$2,000 of the $2,350 hangs on Peak Saver enrolment. It is free, it takes minutes, and it decides which charger you can fit.
After 31 December 2026 the top-up goes and $1,750 with it. The base rebate and the Peak Saver bonus stay — neither has an expiry.

Your numbers
Watch the $50,000 line. The cap is the final transaction value, not the sticker. Freight and taxes don't count toward it — but dealer documentation and admin fees do. One $599 doc fee on a $49,998 car forfeits the entire amount. There is no taper.

How this is worked out
Metro Vancouver prices as at 22 August 2026. Electricity is BC Hydro Step 2 at 14.08c/kWh, less the 5c overnight time-of-day discount for charging between 11pm and 7am. Assumes 18 kWh/100km. Excludes insurance. Resale on the new car is excluded — the same assumption applies whichever car you are in, so it cancels out. The trade-in your car would fetch today is counted as a cost of keeping it, because in a few years it may fetch nothing. An estimate, not a quote.

BC Hydro's full condition, in their words: “To receive the community-based top up, you must register your charger in Peak Saver and reside on a qualifying feeder.”
The feeder is the line that serves your street. BC Hydro confirms it at application — it isn't something you need to look up. Also required, from BC Hydro's program guide: a Level 2 unit, new and permanently installed; the home must be your principal residence with dedicated off-street parking, though exceptions are considered where a local bylaw allows street parking. One rebate per address, and not a replacement of an existing install. Tesla units are not eligible.

- 5 You You submit it Peak Saver enrolment with BC Hydro is required before the rebate. Then you submit from your own BC Hydro account. It is paid to the account holder, directly.
Who does the electrical work
Voltavia Contracting Ltd., our partner electrical contractor in Coquitlam. Their Electrical Contractor licence is active and verified with Technical Safety BC, and they carry $2 million of commercial general liability cover per occurrence ($5 million aggregate).
1-year workmanship warranty on every install, included.
The charger carries its own 3-year manufacturer warranty on top of that — every Peak Saver-supported model does.
You may not need a panel upgrade
Older panels often look too small for an EV charger. An energy management system lets your existing panel carry the extra load by managing when the charger draws power — so a service upgrade costing thousands can often be avoided.
BC Hydro pays $200 toward an EV power management device
Separate from the $2,350 and claimed through the same application. Whether it stacks is unconfirmed with BC Hydro, so we never quote a combined figure.
Your strata must obtain an electrical planning report.
Five or more units is also the line BC Hydro draws on rebates: below it you are on the single-family stream, at or above it the building claims as a whole, for much larger sums.
- Five or more strata lots, as at 31 December 2023.
- Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Capital Regional District. Elsewhere in BC the date is 31 December 2028.
- No opt-out. It cannot be waived by owner vote.
- Only designated BC professionals may prepare one — an engineer, applied science technologist, certified technician, or journeyperson electrician.
An electrical planning report and a BC Hydro EV Ready plan are separate documents under separate authorities. One does not satisfy the other. EVChargerBC prepares neither.
And since 15 July 2026, that same report unlocks the money.
BC Hydro now requires an electrical planning report — or an EV Ready plan — before a building can claim standalone charger rebates. The obligation you already have is the document that opens the funding.
